Dr. John J. Oró, Director of the Neurosurgery Center of Colorado, is a nationally recognized leader in the treatment of Chiari I Malformation and syringomyelia. Prior to moving to Aurora, Colorado in 2005, Dr. Oró served as Professor and Chief of the Division of Neurological Surgery and Director of the Neurological Surgery Training Program at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
Research has included basic and clinical studies on motor evoked potential monitoring in spinal injury and neurosurgical monitoring. He has published one of the largest clinical outcome studies in the Chiari I malformation and syringomyelia and recently with Diane Mueller, ND, RN, FNP-BC developed the first of its kind patient based Chiari outcome scale, The Chiari Symptom Profile. Dr. Oró serves on the advisory boards of The American Syringomyelia Society and the Chiari and Syringomyelia Foundation and is invited nationally and internationally to speak on these disorders.
In addition to directing The Chiari Care Center in Aurora Colorado, one of the largest Chiari centers in the U.S., Dr. Oró's neurosurgical specialties include evaluation and treatment of the Chiari malformation and syringomyelia, disorders of the cervical spine, and malformations at the cranio-cervical junction.
