About

Bio

Kimberly Kuncl, MD joined Douglas Women’s Center in 1999. She was ACOG board certified in 2001. She completed Medical School at Morehouse School of Medicine and her residency at St. John Hospital Medical Center. She says, “I grew up in Chicago, and I wanted to become a doctor since the beginning of high school. I have always had a strong interest and desire to help people and I have been motivated by wanting to have a positive impact on people’s lives. My family has a strong history of various types of cancers including breast cancer, ovarian cancer and colon cancer. These variables were also factors in helping me decide to go into women’s health after medical school. I have been in practice at Douglas Women’s Center for 12 years since 1999 and over the course of my career here, I have mostly been influenced to want to have a positive impact on families. My foremost interest is in healthy lifestyle modifications, so I try to strongly encourage patients to eat healthy, not smoke and stay active. I try to practice what I preach. I love hiking outdoors, tennis and walking my dog. I try to exercise regularly and eat healthy, but I am aware of the difficulties of maintaining these healthy lifestyle goals.”

Specialties
Doctors may have more than one area of specialty interest. Board certification in a specialty area means the doctor has completed formal training and has practice experience in that specialty, and has passed the certification examination from the corresponding accredited medical specialty board.

Maybe yes, maybe no: If the incision on the uterus is vertical, then you need another C/S. If it is low transverse, then you can consider a VBAC which is a vaginal delivery after a CS. You need to ask if this is an option at the beginning of the pregnancy. Many OB's don't offer VBACs. The concern is uterine rupture which can have devastating effects on the mother and the baby. The rate is low but unpredictable.

Probably not: Toxoplasmosis is the concern for pregnant women handling kitty litter. If you do not know if you have been exposed, it is best to avoid the kitty litter; also gardening can be a way to get exposed to it. If exposed, while pregnant, it can be passed to the baby 60% of time and cause problems with growth restriction and brain development among other concerns.

The egg lives @2d: Ovulation is when the egg is released from the ovary. It generally occurs 2 weeks after the first day of the last menstrual period. The egg survives about two days after ovulation unless it is fertilized. This is conception and a subsequent pregnancy.
