Dr. Jeffrey S. Marsh's bio

Dr. Marsh is the Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at the St. John’s Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO, USA, and the Director of their Cleft Lip/Palate and Craniofacial Deformities Center. After 25 years of academic service, on 30 June 2003 he retired from the Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine as Professor of Surgery, Radiology and Pediatrics. He currently is a Clinical Professor of Plastic Surgery at the St. Louis University School of Medicine. A graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, he completed residencies in Surgery and Plastic Surgery as well as a fellowship in Craniofacial Surgery. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Dr. Marsh's clinical and research interests are focused on cleft lip/palate and other craniofacial anomalies. He has published 157 peer reviewed articles, 4 books, and multiple chapters and commentaries. Dr. Marsh is also involved nationally in education of patients, families and the lay public regarding clefts and craniofacial anomalies. He is a Past-President of the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association and of the Cleft Palate Foundation. He served for six years on the Medical Advisory Board of the Smile Train Foundation. Dr. Marsh has performed volunteer surgery and education in Asia since 1991. He has done cleft teaching in Cambodia, China, England, India, Israel, Japan, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. He currently is the medical director of the Bhutan Cleft Care Project and the Lao P.D.R. Cleft Care Project, assisting development of indigenous cleft care teams. In 2011, Dr. Marsh received the Johns Hopkins University “Knowledge for the World” award in recognition of his international medical volunteerism. Dr. Marsh avidly pursues the outdoors sports of cycling, inline skating, hiking and skiing, nordic and alpine, and paints in oils and watercolors. He has an active yoga practice.
