Bio

Dr. David Roos is a board-certified pediatrician. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1975 from Colorado College. Dr. Roos earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Colorado Medical School in 1979 and completed his Pediatric Internship and Residency program in Denver in 1982. He joined David Simon, M.D. in 1982 when the practice name was Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine Associates in Aurora, Colorado. The name was changed to KidsAurora.com in 2004 and when we moved to Parker in 2008 we became Crown Point Pediatrics. Dr. Roos has a particular interest in diabetes, care of the premature infant, obesity treatment and the treatment of behavioral and emotional issues. He is an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Colorado Medical School. Janie and I were married in 1980 and we have three wonderful kids who have taught us many important lessons about raising children with love and grace and an open hand. My faith in God is the source of the love and compassion I offer my patients as a physician. As I treat each patient, the spiritual life of each individual is considered an integral part of his or her physical and emotional well being. I enjoy music and playing my Martin guitar and singing oldies or Christian worship music with my friends and family. I love taking walks and gardening with my wife Janie and we go skiing each winter as often as we can. We also like traveling and discovering new places around the world. I have been an elder at Greenwood Community Church since 2000 and have seen how important faith is to the lives of children and their parents. In the past, Janie and I have taught Sunday school classes for two and three year olds. Now we are involved in the Stephen’s ministry at church to come alongside people in their time of need.” - David Roos , M.D.

Specialties
Doctors may have more than one area of specialty interest. Board certification in a specialty area means the doctor has completed formal training and has practice experience in that specialty, and has passed the certification examination from the corresponding accredited medical specialty board.

Hypoglycemic seizure: The most common type of seizure that a diabetic can have is one set off by a low blood sugar, usually below 40 mg/dl. A diabetic is usually somewhat aware of events and people around them while they are experiencing a seizure and may be able to ask for help. In an epileptic seizure there is usually no awareness of events during the convulsion. Diabetic seizures range from mild to severe.

Infancy: The youngest child in my practice with new onset diabetes was about 8 months old. She had recurrent yeast diaper rash and had elevated sugar levels in her urine and blood. Any child can be tested for diabetes with a urinalysis and a blood sugar level, so technically a newborn can be tested for diabetes. Diabetes is very uncommon in young infants.

Summer camps: I am not aware of any boarding schools set up to care exclusively for diabetic children. However, there are many great summer camps for diabetic kids that give them a chance to meet other children their age with diabetes. This is a great help to build their self confidence, improve their diabetic control and diet with strenuous activity and meet new friends so they know they are not alone.
