Doctor was available right away, listened to my symptoms and prescribed the right medication. He made sure no allergies and that was it. Very fast and easy

Pat J.

From Texas

The doctor made me feel comfortable right away, very easy to ask about concerns I might have had and great feedback from the doctor.

Patrice P.

From New York

My doctor was very professional, thorough, and careful to ask me numerous relevant questions. She answered my questions not only in a detailed manner, but also in a way I could understand.

Betty M.

From Tennessee

It was quick & easy to book the appointment. I was able to get a PC appointment the next morning…within 12 hours! I connected and got my ongoing meds refilled. It was so nice for me living in a rural community.

From California

Why should I be a member?

Having a general or "primary care" doctor decreases hospitalizations and emergency room visits. Even if you're healthy, having a primary care doctor helps prevent serious illness.

If you struggle with chronic issues such as diabetes, hypertension, or asthma, having a primary care doctor could be the difference between life and death.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use my health insurance?

Yes! We accept hundreds of out-of-network insurance plans around the country and in-network Medicare for doctor visit fees. We also accept almost all HSA/FSA cards. At this time, most insurance companies do not pay for membership fees, just doctor visits. We currently do not accept Medicaid.

Why do you charge a membership fee and a fee for each doctor visit?

Charging a membership fee helps us keep doctor-visit costs down, similar to a big box store where you pay for a membership in order to get lower prices on groceries and household goods.

What do you mean by "primary care"?

Primary care refers to accessible, comprehensive, person-focused healthcare. It is based on a long-term relationship with a primary care provider who understands the full scope of the patient's health situation and can coordinate specialized care when needed.

Why do I need a primary care provider (PCP)?

Numerous studies show that having a primary care doctor decreases hospitalization and emergency room visits. It's also linked to higher birth rates, life expectancy, and overall satisfaction with the U.S. healthcare system. Even if you're healthy, having a primary care doctor helps prevent serious illness, which is more effective and less expensive than treatment. If you struggle with chronic issues such as diabetes, hypertension, or asthma, having a primary care doctor could be the difference between life and death.

What kind of technology or software do I need for an online doctor visit?

For a video visit, you can use any smart device that connects to the internet, including a phone, tablet, or laptop. If you don't have internet access, you can also conduct doctor "visits" by text message.

Does HealthTap give doctors notes?

Yes. HealthTap doctors can provide notes to verify that you've seen a doctor about your overall health or for a certain medical condition. This can be used for participation in sports programs, for school programs, or given to your employer.

Are there any medications that HealthTap doctors cannot prescribe?

There are some medications that are always prescribed in-person and cannot be prescribed by HealthTap doctors (or any other doctor seeing a patient online). These include opioids and other controlled substances and some psychiatric and lifestyle drugs.

What credentials do HealthTap doctors have?

HealthTap doctors who conduct online doctor visits are based in the U.S. and have at least one medical degree. Additionally, they are board-certified with an accredited American Board of Medical Specialities (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA) speciality board. They have a valid and unrestricted license to practice in one or more U.S. state and no significant adverse professional action against the doctor's medical license.

Why should I download the HealthTap mobile app?

If you plan to use HealthTap on your smartphone or tablet, the HealthTap app makes it even easier to take advantage of HealthTap features, including scheduling and conducting online doctor visits.

How is HealthTap different from other telemedicine providers?

There are four main ways that HealthTap is different. First, we're available in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Second, we're easy and affordable with or without insurance. Third, our medical care is provided by doctors only, not nurses or physician's assistants. Lastly, we focus on long-term, primary care in addition to being available on short notice when you're sick.
