Volar Plate Injury Thumb
I broke my left middle finger almost 3 months ago. Was told its a stable volar plate injury and will be sore and stiff for 6 months. Is this true?
Stiff finger: A stable volar plate injury should be healed in less than 6 months in a 35 year old woman. I would ask your physician to repeat the xray and if normal, for a referral to physical therapy to help you mobilize the finger before it gets stuck in its current immobile position ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
90% sure i tore my volar plate.Dr said it was not broken and did nothing.I cant bend finger all the way and im worried about healing. What should I do?
Second opinion: It sounds like you are not comfortable with the evaluation and treatment you got from the first doctor, so I would not hesitate to seek a second opinion. Make sure you have all your questions answered to your satisfaction and that you understand and agree with the treatment plan. I had a volar plate arthroplasty. Had pin inserted in finger. After a month, the pin is coming out. How painful is it to remove the pin?
Not very: Pulling out the pin is not painless, but it is not very painful. While I have not experienced this myself, my patients tell me that is an unusual feeling like something is being pulled out. It will usually bleed for a few seconds. Not worry, you will be fine and good luck. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

However, volar plate, or more commonly called the plantar plate, can be used to describe the fibrocartilagenous structures of the metatarsal phalangeal and interphalangeal joints located in the feet as well. Should I do surgery of subtle volar fracture through proximal base of proximal phalanx of thumb with volary distraction of avulsed fracture fragment?
See a hand surgeon: Fractures through joint surfaces are generally more problematic than those outside of joints. I would see a hand surgeon to evaluate the particulars of your case. Good luck. ...Read more
