If more severe, it can take several more weeks of immobilization and in some cases surgery to correct the torn ligament. ...Read more

Why is recovery time for an ACL injury so long?

Why is recovery time for an ACL injury so long?

Graft maturation: Besides regaining motion and strength after ACL reconstruction, your knee takes a long time to fully recover because the graft that is used to replace your torn ligament needs to incorporate into the bony sockets drilled to hold the graft. The graft also takes time to literally become a ligament. Cutting sports are usually not recommended until after the 4th to 6th month after surgery. ...Read more

What is the expected recovery time after a knee arthroscopy?

Depends: Knee arthroscopy is highly dependent on the procedure being performed along with it. Trimming a torn meniscus can lead to immediate relief and return to function while acl or PCL reconstructions take 8-9 months to recover. It also depends on your conditioning before surgery. Pain from quad weakness and tendinitis will not improve at all after surgery. It will depend more on rehab. ...Read more

What is the recovery time on a torn meniscus?

1-6 weeks: For meniscus surgeries in an otherwise healthy patient in excellent condition, the arthroscopy does not need too much time to recover from. I have had patients walk out from surgery and never turn back. However, patients are often deconditioned because of the injury. This causes muscle (especially quads) weakness and inhibition that takes longer to recover from. ...Read more

Recovery time from ACL revision surgery on knee?

8-9 months: An acl revision is seldom as simple as a first time acl reconstruction, so rehab would often be a bit more guarded. However, given good graft fixation, and a well-performed procedure, the expected recovery should be the same. Expect 6-12 weeks for return to daily activities and 8-9 months ideally before return to cutting sports. ...Read more

I've just had plantar fasciitis surgery. How long will the recovery time be?

I've just had plantar fasciitis surgery. How long will the recovery time be?

Ask your sugeon: I am kind of surprised this question would be asked after the surgery and not before. All doctors have different protocols. You did not mention if you are on crutches, in a cast, in a splint, allowed to walk? Did you have the plantar fascia cut? Was a bone spur resected as well? All this info would be needed to know. Without knowing i would tell you 6-8 weeks. But that depends on many variables. ...Read more
