Good for you!!: Sometimes a PT is better for this than an ortho Dr. Especially after they determine no surgery is needed. So seek a good PT referral - ask at a Dr, a hospital, a nursing home, a gym, a pharmacy. You'll find they can really help! ...Read more

You would probably do well to avoid jumping activities and activities that involve a lot of knee flexion, and if it does not get better I would consider being seen. ...Read more

L5-S1 microdiscectomy Fri for left leg sciatic pain. Calf/foot pain relief w/some thigh/behind knee pain. Pain less AM but sharp pain down left leg into foot w/pain level of 9.5 & hurts sitting/lying.

Getting to the disk requires mobilization of the roots and inflammatory changes from that- or the disk herniation- itself can give this pain. As long as bowel and bladder OK, hopefully this will resolve also. Best! ...Read more

Sharp severe pain in left knee. Pain occurs when bending or lifting leg, when going down stairs, and when pressing quad-edge of kneecap.

Protection!: You know the joke "Doc, it hurts when I do this." and Doc says "Don't do that! Well, for now try not to do those things. Also use a good knee brace to protect/imobolize the knee until you can see a doctor for an exam. Rest will help whatever it is to stop further irritation damage. Knees can be unforgiving, so treat them w/ gentle care. Best! ...Read more

I have lumbar deg discs.have knee pain when bending knee and instability. could this be related?

I have lumbar deg discs.have knee pain when bending knee and instability. could this be related?

Not likely: Disc problems can cause nerve pain that radiates down the leg, including over the knee; but they don't usually cause problems with motion or stability in the knee. The main exception to this is if there is such severe nerve compression that atrophy and weakness in the muscles occur, then the knee can feel unstable secondary to weakness. ...Read more
