Edema Calf Injury
Last week I had a pain in my achilles. It lasted about 5 mins and then went again. But since then I have a tingling in the place where the pain was. I have had calf problems in the past. Could the pain from achilles be connected to my calf injury?
Achilles discomfort: When you press on your calf do you elicit pain? The tingling could be from achilles tendonitis, sprain (runner?) lumbar origin or may be compounded or related to previous calf issues as the calf muscle do coalesce into the achilles tendon. Have you tried ice, kinesiotape or an ace bandage or splint, or motrin products? ? Would follow up w/ doc ...Read more
Fluid in the tissues, either caused by something local to the swollen area like an injury or inflammation, or from the body's retention of water. Gravity brings the fluid to the feet & legs in that case. As a general rule, if one foot is swollen, something is wrong with the foot. If both feet are swollen, it's not the feet, but water ...Read more

Is there a muscle injury that might cause swelling in lower part of the leg but nothing shows abnormal on MRI? Does MRI always show edema w/ injury?
MRI can tell:
As long as the correct "sequences" were performed and the right area was imaged. For instance, a knee MR only includes a small area of the leg. Your pain could be below or above that. One type of sequence looks specifically for fluid in the muscle, and it is very sensitive for muscle strains.
If you have your MRI on a CD, I can review it at HealthTap Concierge: healthtap. Com/saurbornmd. ...Read more

The question is why:
Edema always leaks from blood vessels, but why? It could be related to too much salt in the diet or pressure on veins from being overweight, varicose veins, or too much standing.
It sounds like the doc was saying there's no evidence of a more serious cause like heart, lung, kidney or liver disease or blocked veins. ...Read more
My legs and feet hurt and I looked down and out of nowhere my calfs and feet were huge!!! Why would I have edema that bad out of the blue?
I suddenly have a sore area at the base of my skull w/edema dia of a quarter on R as if something hit me. Same pain in right calf. Have not exercised.
I would not think: These two symptoms are related. If also redness of small, swollen scalp area consider bug bite as well as trauma. May need mirror or help of family/friend to see and evaluate. Calf tenderness is also usually related to trauma even it can't be recalled. More worrisome if redness/swelling associated there as well. Soft sign of blood clot: more pain when foot pointed toward head/ankle hyperflexed. ...Read more

I have hemihypertrophy on my right leg. One lump on knee two on right side of leg. Searing pain in calf plus pitting edema in ankle. Is this urgent?
Could be serious.: Hemihypertrophy can mean a difference in length of the leg as well as girth of the leg. If you have suddenly noticed a difference in girth with searing calf pain and pitting edema, you need to go to the ER immediately because of the possibility of a blood clot. I believe in playing it safe since failure to treat could have devastating consequences. ...Read more
