? mastoid process: From your description and location, this sounds like the mastoid process, which would also be present on the other side. This is a projection of the skull where many of the jaw muscles are anchored. There are a variety of lymph nodes located all over the head and neck, but these tend not to be hard. I can blow air out of my ear by pinching my nose and breathing out. With no force, it just flows out of my ear. No pain/injury. Ear tubes 10 yrs ago?

Better check that: Sounds like your eardrum is not making a seal; 10 yrs is a long time. Also, your eustachian tube is not offering much resistance; you might just introduce bacteria into the middle ear - leading to an ear infection. Try not to do that often. Someone should examine your ear, and do tympanometry - puffing air into the ear canal and checking drum function. Make appointment for Otolaryngology. ...Read more

You: You should have a hearing test or audiogram soon to determine the type of hearing loss. My ear has been bleeding for about 6 hours. No other symptoms no injury just started bleeding at work running down my face. Saw dr. Could find nothing?

Poss. Canal scratch: The first question is are you on a blood thinner such as Plavix (clopidogrel) or aspirin? These things happen with scratching of the ear canal with your finger in the middle of the night. If the doctor could see nothing usually means the tympanic membrane is normal but the canal could have a small scratch. If it continues stop the aspirin etc for a few days and see an ear specialist. I had a perilymph fistula patched. Should I be worried about air travel causing another injury in that ear? I want to travel!

Good question: A perilymph fistula is an opening between the inner ear, usually via the round window membrane or oval window. This small communication allowing inner ear fluid (perilymph) into the middle ear can cause, vertigo and hearing loss.
