What can cause a shooting pain followed by dizziness on the left side of the head. Only lasts for about 5-10 seconds, have never had a head injury.

What can cause a shooting pain followed by dizziness on the left side of the head. Only lasts for about 5-10 seconds, have never had a head injury.

Neuralgia?: Irritation of a nerve can cause unilateral (one side) shooting pains and dizziness might occur in some situations of head nerves. The fact that it only lasts a few seconds might support the idea of a "neuralgiform" pain syndrome (stemming from nerve irritation). These can be difficult to track down, and tests often normal. Pupil is blown out, recent head injury no bleeding or loss of consciousness, dizzy and disoriented, could it be treated at home?

Urgent evaluation: A blown pupil following trauma could be from orbital injury, but, much more worrisome, would be something compressing on the responsible nerve in the brain, such as from brain swelling. This needs to be checked out immediately. ...Read more

I suffered a head injury with concussion 11 days ago. Most symptoms are gone except dizziness if I move too fast. Is it safe to have sex?

Yes, quite safe: You may be suffering from POSTCONCUSSIVE SYNDROME. Have you been examined/cleared by someone with experience in these matters? If not, I'd suggest you do. You may run into some issues down the line that later you'll forget could be related to this concussive event. Best to have a bit of a workup if you're still dizzy. And yes, it's safe to have sex. Why did u faint?: First thing is to find out why you fainted. Your symptoms may be related to the underlying problem rather than the fall. A neurologist should see you for a full eval. A holter echo and tilt table test may be helpful as well. ...Read more

I suffered a head injury at work about 36 hours ago. I felt a little woozy all day yesterday I never blacked out, did not have any headaches, vomiting, memory loss or pupil change, but have noticed some blood when I blow my nose. Is there anything I sho

Do: Do not know about the actual type of injury. We already know that you have not had headaches, vomiting, loss of consciousness, amnesia or pupillary changes. Additional symptoms can include: nausea, ringing in your ears, feeling dizzy, slurred speech, confusion or feeling tired. Major concern is that you have felt woozy. The symptoms from a head injury can be subtle. I am not sure what to make of the blood in your nose - don't know the mechanism of injury. If you continue to be woozy, I would recommend a check up. Because not all the effects from a concussion may be immediate, self- monitor to ensure that you don't develop more symptoms. If there is a small amount of blood in your nostril and it is not on- going, it will likely resolve. Be gentle with yourself. Be self aware for signs or symptoms of a concussion. ...Read more
