Mucus dripping from back of nose..keep spitting out of mouth. Itchy/sore throat radiating into ears... almost 2 weeks like this? Worse after speaking?

Post nasal drip: Your symptoms are consistent with post-nasal drip. You may try over the counter allergy pill such as benadryl, zyrtec or Allegra. Any of the generic formulations b may work as effectively. Try this first and see if your symptoms improve. Be sure to take consistently for a few days to really notice an effect. If you start having other symptoms then may need to try something else ...Read more

Painless dent on scalp after minor trauma, getting sinus/skull xray, had nausea, sinusitis and postnasal drip. Could CSF leak cause the sinusitis?

Painless dent on scalp after minor trauma, getting sinus/skull xray, had nausea, sinusitis and postnasal drip. Could CSF leak cause the sinusitis?

Unlikely: depends on what you mean by sinusitis. Minor trauma is not likely to result in a CSF leak. If you have one-sided nasal drainage which is clear and salty tasting I recommend you see your doctor. There is a lab test for CSF fluid from the nose (beta-2-transferrin test) which is very accurate. ...Read more

Mucas drip after concussion no blood anywhere just back of throat Mucas anything to worry about doubtful it's CSF no drip from nose or ears?

How bad was the: concussion? If you are to the point you could even consider it being CSF, you need to seek medical attention. I had a TBI patient that was seen as an outpatient for two months for allergies and when he came to us it was a CSF leak from old repair that had given out. Hopefully its not csf, but get checked. That being said, it could also be just post nasal drainage or remnant inflammation from traum ...Read more

After 2nd lumbar injection, i've had bouts of clear liquid pouring from my nose, bad headaches & a constant salty taste - can this be a CSF leak?

After 2nd lumbar injection, i've had bouts of clear liquid pouring from my nose, bad headaches & a constant salty taste - can this be a CSF leak?

A spinal headache...: Signs of a spinal headache from a LP or lumbar injection usually start with a roaring headache from a lying to sitting/standing position., then improves with lying down. If your headache worsens with upright position, that is characteristic of a CSF leak headache. Go see your doc for a "blood patch" to fix it....You can also try caffeine drinks. ...Read more

Had a runny nose mix with mucus and tear drops dripping out of 1 nostril for about month now. Had sinus surgery 8 months ago. Could it be CSF leak?

Seriously doubt it!: Your symptoms sound more like basic, run of the mill rhinorrhea - likely caused by allergies or viral illness. Let the ENT who did your surgery know your concerns and symptoms. They can examine you, help determine cause, and provide treatment to get you some relief. ...Read more

Had bad sinuses, went into bloodstream. Doc thinks might've had csf leak. Infection clear and no more drainage from nose. Can leaks heal on their own?

Dr. Kevin Yoo Dr. Yoo
1 doctor agreed:

Unlikely leak: A CSF leak can occur by sinus infection where the bone and dura (covering of the brain) is destroyed by the infection. In such a case you would likely develop meningitis and possibly brain abscess. You would be horribly sick and CSF leak would be possible. So, if you were not this sick then it is unlikely your nasal drip was CSF leak. On the other hand, CSF leaks can and do heal on their own. ...Read more

Can spinal fluid come out from your nose after a neck injury? Was in a head lock while being assaulted and was squeezing my neck very hard for about 45 seconds.

This : This less likely than if you were struck in the midface. Cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) can leak from the nose due to fracture of a thin plate of bone above the nose called the cribiform plate. This type of leak is usually due to a direct blow to the midface. ...Read more

Balance problems shortly after coping weeks of randomly plugged or unplugged ear... No excessive wax inside. ?

Balance: The fluid in the inner ear often controls balance. It is not uncommon to suffer from balance issues after having ear infections or 'clogged/plugged' ears. These symptoms can persist, and if they are present for too long, you should see an ENT (Ear/Nose/Throat) doctor to have it checked out. ...Read more

Waking with sore head blocked nose blowing nose and yellow fluid drains out. Gp says there's nothing they can do?

Waking with sore head blocked nose blowing nose and yellow fluid drains out. Gp says there's nothing they can do?

Find another Dr.: Yellow discharge usually means infection, and may require antibiotics. In the meantime, I suggest Afrin nasal spray to shrink your nasal and sinus membranes, and open up your eustachian tubes. Also, get a cool mist humidifier, and fill it with one bottle of hydrogen peroxide and two bottles of water. The H2O2 will kill virus and bacteria on contact, and break down into harmless water and oxygen ...Read more

Always a sensation of mucus dripping from nose to throat. No sore throat as such , no blocked nose either.Suffering from 8 months.Any suggestions?

Post nasal drip: Uris, allergies, sinusitis, foreign body in nose, pregnancy, medications, deviated septum or another anatomical problem, changing weather, cold temps, or dry air, spicy foods, fumes from chemicals, perfumes, cleaning products, smoke, or other irritants can all cause thickening and persistent mucous discharge. Think about this and try figuring out cause, or see an ENT doctor. ...Read more
