Does blood in mucus indicate a head injury?

Does blood in mucus indicate a head injury?

I get blood in nose from blowing. Is this a sign of nasal cancer?

Unlikely: Most cases of bloody nose (epistaxis) are not from cancer. There are many reasons and the most common are nose picking or other trauma including nose sprays, dry air, bleeding disorders, medications like aspirin, infections (common cold or sinus). Other cause may be high blood pressure, low platelet count, pregnancy, cancer (leukemia) and more. If nose bleeds are severe or recurrent, see ENT doc. ...Read more

Whenver I blow my nose there's droplets of blood and bloody mucus in the tissue. Is this normal? Could it be a sign of infection or cancer?

Whenver I blow my nose there's droplets of blood and bloody mucus in the tissue. Is this normal? Could it be a sign of infection or cancer?

Probably not: Especially in dry winter air, some blood when you blow your nose can be normal. If this is unusual for you, and if you have other symptoms (congestion, fatigue, drainage, etc.), it could be a symptom of sinus infection. It would be very rare for this symptom to mean you have cancer. A simple treatment would be to start moisturizing with saline spray and a little vaseline periodically. ...Read more

Almost choked on a ball of blood. Thin layer of clear mucus around in it but primarily bright, thick, blood reaking blood. Throat not sore. what's up?

Look at nasopharynx: Bringing up blood with mucus suggests there is a source of bleeding from the head and neck area and not regurgitating blood from the stomach. Since there are no symptoms related to the throat refered to as oropharynx I suspect the problem is bleeding behind the nose in the nasopharynx. If persistent this can be defined with a transnasal laryngoscopy catheter and a bleeding site cauterized ...Read more

Blood from nose: Blood from nose (epistaxis) can be due to the high heat in the midwest & most of the country right now. The heat can dry out mucous membranes causing bleeding and 'small streaks of blood phlegm' and 'when blowing nose.' you may want to see your doctor bleeding becomes excessive or persists. Topical vaseline or Bacitracin on the nasal septum may help protect the mucous membranes from drying. ...Read more
